Their minimal arrangements of smooth R&B boy/girl duets spiced up with electronic drums and samples have garnered them wide critical acclaim. Not to mention plenty of fanlurv and a reputation as the soundtrack to makeout sessions worldwide. The xx’s debut is a solid pop offering, so get comfortable with these tunes; They are bound to tour them sea to sea for who knows how long.
The Rough Trade Bonus Disc contains the superb cover of Aaliyah’s Hot Like Fire (also the b side of Crystallize) as well as their cover of Blood Red Moon (b side of Basic Space) & Teardrops. The remix discs are to taste, with the Islands disc being much better balanced/interesting; The Basic Space remix disc is context insensitive, containing standard club floor fodder (with Sampha’s 8bit disco remix retaining some charms).
